Trade mission for startups and companies in the ICT sector during the SusHI Tech TOKYO 2027 conference in Tokyo, Japan

The Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) invites companies and startups in the ICT sector to participate in a trade mission to Tokyo (Japan), which will take place from May 19 to 24, 2027, as part of the “SusHI Tech TOKYO 2027” conference.
About SuSHI Tech TOKYO 2027
SuSHI Tech Tokyo 2027 is one of Asia’s leading conferences on innovation and startups, taking place May 20–22, 2027, at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center in Tokyo, Japan. The event brings together startups, investors, corporations, research organizations, and public sector representatives from around the world to promote innovation and address global societal challenges through technology.
The event aims to promote sustainable urban development by combining technology, innovation, and international cooperation to address global societal challenges.
The main theme of SusHi Tech Tokyo 2027 will be the future of humanity, work, and life in the era of artificial intelligence transformation. The event will focus on the question: “How can humans thrive in the era of artificial intelligence transformation?”
Special attention will be given to such technological fields as Physical AI, Quantum Technologies, smart cities (Smart City), urban resilience (Resilience), longevity and drug discovery (Longevity & Drug Discovery), as well as digital content and the creative industries (Content).
The exhibition is planned to showcase Latvia’s startup ecosystem, highlighting its diversity, the complementary nature of representatives from various sectors and fields, as well as the innovation, scalability, and global potential of solutions created in Latvia.
As part of the event, LIAA will participate with a StartUp Latvia booth, providing companies with the opportunity to present their solutions, organize B2B meetings with potential partners and investors, and attend the conference to learn about the latest technology trends and industry developments.
After registering for the trade mission, the LIAA will contact participants to provide updates on the program and discuss the detailed itinerary, which is currently still being developed.
- Work language – English
Information for participants:
- Participants should expect an LIAA participation fee equivalent to 20 person-hours (797.20 euros + VAT):
- If the company meets the criteria for receiving de minimis aid, the participation fee is covered under the de minimis aid program;
- If the company does not meet the criteria for receiving de minimis aid, the LIAA issues an invoice to the company (the rate is 39.86 euros per person-hour + VAT);
- personal transportation expenses;
- living expenses (hotel expenses).
The trade mission is organized by the LIAA; companies can participate either by paying a fee or by receiving financial support. To receive support, a company must meet the eligibility criteria. You can check whether your company qualifies for support using the Self-Assessment Calculator. If support is granted, companies can recover up to 60% of their total eligible costs.
Please note that the calculation of quality criteria does not apply to startups listed in the Latvian startup database.
To ensure that the aid recipient qualifies as a startup, the LIAA verifies whether the aid recipient is listed in the Latvian startup database or on the list compiled by the LIAA department responsible for startups. If the aid recipient is not listed in either of these lists, they will be asked to submit a document confirming that they receive support from European-level projects. If the recipient fails to submit the requested additional information, compliance with the quality criteria will be assessed.
After the event, businesses that qualify for support based on the quality criteria will be able to submit a payment request using the Business.gov.lv e-service. Before filling out the application, we encourage you to review the terms and conditions of the activity in the “Trade Missions Abroad” section.
The LIAA is organizing this trade mission as part of the Innovative Entrepreneurship Development Program for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)—co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Latvian state budget—and the project “Support for the Improvement of the Technology Transfer System.”
Companies receiving support must not have any tax debts with the State Revenue Service (VID).
A company’s participation in the event may be rejected if information available from public sources, information available to the contracting authority, or information provided by competent authorities contains details regarding the reputation of the company or its representatives that raise doubts about the integrity of the company or its representatives.
Applications to participate in the trade mission via the Business.gov.lv platform are open until November 15, 2026.
