DMV Practice Test using state support: the most important resource in IT is people
Latvian company DMV Practice Test is developing a mobile app called Luma, which uses AI and gamification elements to help users prepare for the driver’s license theory exam. The product has already been successfully launched in the United Kingdom and the United States, and the company plans to expand its operations to other European countries in the future. To accelerate the development of the solution and strengthen its team, the company is utilising support from the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) to attract highly qualified employees.
Company CEO Germans Gedgauds acknowledges that people are the key resource for a technology company’s growth, but attracting specialists in the IT sector requires significant investment: “Salaries in the IT sector are relatively high, so this support significantly facilitates our development. It allows us to continue refining our product in a more targeted manner and to develop AI solutions, which is one of our main focuses.”
Several of the company’s specialists are involved in the support programme, working on the development of AI functionality. The company acknowledges that the support received has already made a tangible contribution to strengthening the team in the first few months.
The company learned about the opportunity to apply for the programme from its partners, who helped prepare the necessary documents. Although the administrative process initially seemed complicated, in practice, working with the LIAA turned out to be much simpler than initially expected.
“It’s rare to encounter such a proactive approach! If there were any omissions in the applications, LIAA specialists not only pointed them out but also explained in detail how to correct everything. This greatly simplifies the process, especially for companies dealing with such programmes for the first time,” Mr Gedgauds says.
He acknowledges that, after this initial experience, the bureaucratic burden no longer seems as heavy as it initially appeared, and the company would gladly consider using other development support instruments in the future. “Attracting investment in Latvia isn’t always easy, so any support that helps companies grow and develop their products is very valuable. Our experience with LIAA has been very positive,” Mr Gedgauds emphasises.
