Construction work is actively underway in Bauska on Vilvi Group’s new cheese production facility, which will begin operations in 2026. This is the largest investment project in the company’s history, with more than EUR 50 million being invested in the construction of the plant and modern equipment.

Construction of the plant began in August this year and is being carried out by local construction company Mapri Būve. The new factory is being built on the site of Vilvi Group’s existing production facility, which has been in operation since 2008 and is currently being modernized.

It is planned that the factory will process more than 500 tons of milk per day, producing up to 50 tons of cheese. Annual production will reach up to 18 000 tons. The new production facility in Bauska could potentially intensify competition in the fresh milk market.

The new factory will also create more than 100 new jobs.

“This will be an automated, robotised, and modern cheese production facility that will open up additional opportunities for Baltic farmers and allow our customers to enjoy the highest quality products,” emphasizes Gintaras Bertašius, Director General of the Vilvi Group.

Sustainable and energy-efficient production

The main cheese production equipment has already been installed in the new factory, including modernized milk storage tanks, cheese forming and pressing technologies, packaging lines, and maturing warehouses.

“The quality of the cheese produced will be ensured by energy-efficient equipment, which will significantly reduce electricity consumption and promote sustainable production,” says Imants Bozovičs, chief engineer at the factory.

The company has already installed a 500-kW solar energy system, which is one of the largest in the Bauska region, as well as a new water-cooling system that helps reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. The investments will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and increase the efficiency of energy use.

Actively seeking employees

As the factory grows, the company is actively expanding its team and inviting engineering specialists and production workers to join. To attract professionals not only from Bauska, but also from the wider region and Riga, the company offers compensation for fuel costs to employees who live further away.

Vilvi Group is one of the largest milk processing companies in the Baltic States, with exports accounting for approximately 90% of its sales. Its products are sold in more than 40 countries around the world, including EU and Asian markets. The group includes Vilkyškių pieninė, Modest, Kelmės pieninė, Kelmės pienas, Pieno logistika (Lithuania) and Baltic Dairy Board (Latvia).
