Two Latvian companies win €500,000 EIC grants in highly competitive European innovation race

Published: 28.04.2026.LIAA

Two innovative Latvian companies, P-Agro Minerals and PrintyMed, have achieved significant success by winning grants in the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pre-Accelerator program. Each of the companies has secured a €500,000 grant for their project, thereby ensuring a total project implementation budget of €750,000 to refine their technologies and prepare them for the global market.

The competition, designed to strengthen the European innovation ecosystem, saw 70 companies selected from across Europe. Latvia demonstrated high engagement in this selection process: out of 28 submitted applications, nine received high scores, although there was insufficient funding in the competition to support them all.

"We see this as a very clear sign that many science-based technologies are being developed in Latvia. If further testing and market research are successful, these companies could begin manufacturing unique, socially significant innovative products for Europe right here in Latvia," emphasizes Egita Aizsilniece-Ibema, Head of the Innovation and Technology Representation in Brussels.

Winning Projects

P-Agro Minerals: Sustainable Phosphorus Recovery With the support of the EIC grant, the company will significantly accelerate the development of its Letonite technology—an innovative solution for recovering phosphorus from wastewater for use in agriculture. As part of the project, the company will demonstrate the technology's effectiveness in reducing phosphorus pollution and optimizing treatment costs, while also strengthening intellectual property and developing industrial partnerships.

PrintyMed: Innovations in Medical Technology As part of the EIC Pre-Accelerator project, PrintyMed will optimize and validate the functionality of its proprietary spider silk membrane. A key achievement will be integrating this membrane into an "organ-on-a-chip" model, marking a significant step forward in the development of future medical technologies.

The next EIC Pre-Accelerator call will be announced in May 2027, with a submission deadline of November 18, 2027.
